The Annual General Meeting (AGM) for 2009 was held on 3rd March in the Students’ Union. The new committee was elected, and is as follows:
Congratulations to all the new committee!
Additionally, motions changing the structure of the group were voted on. These included Committee Structure, which would convert the Political Officer and Campus Affairs Officer into permanent positions on the committee, and Finance Structure, which would move all our finances into the Students’ Union to be within their guidelines. Both motions were passed.
Changes to the national structure of Conservative Future also resulted in us changing the name of the branch from Conservative Future Sheffield to Conservative Future University of Sheffield. As a branch, we will still be part of a larger Conservative Future Sheffield which would include us, and new branches to be formed at Sheffield Hallam University and one for the City for those not enrolled as students as either the University of Sheffield or Sheffield Hallam University.
Also, as part of the AGM proceedings, the Area Chairman for South Yorkshire, James Gould, was endorsed by the membership.

James Gould, current vice-chairman of CF Sheffield, has been appointed as Area Chairman for South Yorkshire. This completes the changes in structure to Conservative Future in Yorkshire & the Humber. Congratulations to James!
An area chairman is responsible for overseeing the activities of CF branches in a particular area, in this case South Yorkshire. They are also responsible for liaising with other CF branches and local associations to coordinate and promote campaigning and share resources, as well as to promote CF generally and assist in increasing its presence.

We held our annual Christmas Social on 11th December at the Dam House in Crookesmoor which had a large turn-out, including two, now graduated, members! As usual, and in true Sheffield CF style, the evening continued at Tequila on West Street and the Harley near the University, ending deep into the night!
On behalf of CF Sheffield, we hope you had a great Christmas and New Year!

In the EGM held on 2nd December, Jack Hands was elected as Political Officer, and Matthew Robinson as Campus Affairs Officer. Additionally, Katherine McLoughlin was elected to serve as Secretary from 1st February 2009. Congratulations to all of them! All positions will be held on a temporary basis until the AGM when all committee positions will be up for election and the Order of Proceedings can be altered to include the new Officer positions and approved.
Tim Cakebread, our current Secretary, will be stepping down on 31st January 2009 due to a course placement in Denmark. We wish him all the very best and thanks him for his fantastic work as Secretary!

On Tuesday, we held a forum for members on the future of CF Sheffield activities, looking specifically at our campaigning. It was agreed that the two main purposes of the society were to get more students involved in the Conservative Party, and campaign in the local area assisting the local associations. This campaigning would take an opposition to the present Labour Government and prove the Conservatives are the best party to vote for at the next General Election, and stand up to the far left movement.
Additionally, an officer roles review was carried out on the committee structure, and the addition of two new officers for campaigning to the committee was overwhelmingly supported. The Political Officer would be responsible for arranging campaigning in and around Sheffield with the local associations and assist in the political arrangements of the group. The Campus Affairs Officer would be responsile for campaigning on the University campus.
An EGM is to be held next Tuesday, 2nd December, to elect a temporary Political Officer and Campus Affairs Officer who would sit on the committee until 3rd March when the AGM occurs.

THe University of Sheffield branches of Conservatives Future, Labour Students, and Liberal Democrat Youth took part in an inter-party football tournament last night at the Goodwin Sports Centre. It consisted of 3 matches of 15 minutes each, which proved to be very exciting! The scores were:
The Liberal Democrats won the tournament overall, but we won on goals! Congratulations to all the team for playing so well despite the freezing weather conditions!
